Lost and Found

I Lost My Dog

  • Call MCPAWS 208.634.3647 to learn if your pet has been brought to the shelter as a stray.
  • After hours, leave a message with a description of your pet and your phone number and we will return your call ASAP. You can also check our Facebook page! After hours, we will direct individuals who have found a lost pet to post photos of the animal, along with their contact info in an effort to find the owners.
  • Post a picture of your missing pet along with your contact info to our Facebook page as well.
  • Call the McCall Police Department at 208.634.7144 or Valley County Dispatch at 208.382.5160. Stray dogs found after hours within McCall city limits may have been brought to the shelter by the McCall Police Department. Stray dogs brought to the shelter by McCall PD will be available for return on the following business day. RTO Fees may apply.
  • Contact local veterinary offices. Sometimes people who find stray pets will take them to the nearest veterinarian.
    • Long Valley Veterinarian: (208) 634-2660
    • Donnelly Veterinary Hospital: (208) 634-4510
    • Cascade Veterinary Clinic: (208) 382-4590
    • Heartland Animal Hospital (Council): (208) 253-6444
  • Create posters and distribute them near where your pet was lost. We find that this is an especially effective tool for locating lost kitties!

Lost and Found

I FOUND A PET

MCPAWS accepts strays during our normal business hours. If possible, please call the shelter before bringing a stray animal to the shelter.

If you’ve found a stray animal outside of our regular business hours:

  • Post a photo of the found animal and a short description on our Facebook page. Owners looking for a lost pet will often check here.
  • Check with your neighbors – they may be missing the pet you found!
  • If you’ve found a dog inside McCall City Limits – call the McCall Police Department (208 634-7144) or Valley County Dispatch (208 382-5160) and a police office may be able to help.

If you’ve found a cat:

  • Is the cat calm, friendly, and healthy in appearance? He or she may not be lost! If it is safe to do so, leave the cat where he or she is. Research shows that these types of kitties are much more likely to make it home on their own, versus being brought to the shelter.
  • Have you found a young kitten(s)? Take a closer look – but don’t touch! If they seem healthy, clean, active and are not in a hazardous location hands off! Mama cat is likely very close by. Leave the kittens alone and watch from a distance. If mama cat does not return in 12-24 hours, bring the kittens indoors and call the shelter. You can learn more about how to help Community Cats (and kittens) here (link).
  • Is the cat skittish and won’t let you touch him/her? This is likely a community cat (feral). MCPAWS is not able to accept community cats as strays – please do not bring them to the shelter. We can still help! Learn more about our Community Cats Program.
