What do I do if I find Kittens?

Here are some guidelines to follow if you find kittens:

1. Have you found a young kitten(s)? Take a closer look – but don’t touch! If they seem healthy, clean, active, and are not in a hazardous location, hands off! Mama cat is likely very close by. Leave the kittens alone and watch from a distance. If Mama Cat does not return in 12-24 hours, bring the kittens indoors and call the shelter. They have the best shot at survival if they stay with their mom, especially when they are very young.
2. If they are in a hazardous location and immediate danger (example: near a road, highway, or predators), you can scoop them up and bring them to MCPAWS.
3. If they are dirty, skinny, and making a lot of noise, they are likely abandoned, and they can come to the shelter.
If you aren’t sure what to do, please leave them alone and give us a call for advice (208) 634-3647.
We are here to help and we want these babies to have the best chance at surviving – which means staying with mom when possible.
