Meet the Veterinary Team
Dr. Matt Cook
Director of Veterinary Services
Dr. Cook began his career in veterinary medicine in 2001 when he was living in Boise and working at Micron Technology. He visited Idaho Humane Society to look for a pet, when he was so overwhelmed by the number of amazing cats and dogs available for adoption. He decided right then to become a volunteer. After volunteering in the shelter’s veterinary clinic, Dr. Cook knew what he needed to do next: he needed to go to veterinary school so he could help more animals.
Dr. Cook graduated from Washington State University Veterinary School in 2012. He has since worked as a veterinarian in Washington, Wyoming, and Idaho and he is looking forward to his new position at the MCPAWS Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Janet Houlihan
After selling my veterinary practice to MCPAWS in April 2020, I went to work, under Covid-19 restrictions, at the MCPAWS Veterinary Hospital. It was a big transition for me and my fellow employees, but one that I embraced with gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to join together with an excellent staff in a newer facility with a great purpose…serving all the animals and people of our area. I’m thrilled and honored to be a part of this endeavor at this point in my career, 45 years as a general practitioner, 32 of which were as a practice owner in McCall. I understand the stresses of trying to run a veterinary business and the effort it takes to keep everything running smoothly, keeping employees and clients happy, and still make a profit. We need the support, understanding and encouragement of our community to help us with this big undertaking. I’m loving the opportunity to finish my career work as a veterinarian focusing on veterinary care for my beloved clients and their pets, for shelter animals, and the health and well-being of our community. All while someone else runs the business! I’m having too much fun to retire yet and plan to continue working part time with MCPAWS Veterinary Hospital for the time being. I’m thankful for the opportunity and for the wonderful people that I get to work with every day I’m there.
Dr. Linda Donerkiel
Dr. Donerkiel graduated from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School in 1995. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Recently, her dream of living in McCall became possible after selling her clinic in Boise. Now she can practice veterinary medicine as well as enjoy all the beauty and recreation that McCall has to offer, including ice hockey, skiing POW and playing golf.
Samara was born in Nampa but has lived in McCall since she was just 3 years old. She comes from a large family and is number five of six girls. Between all of those girls, Samara has 19 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews! Samara has been married to her high school sweetheart for 25 years and they have 3 beautiful daughters ages 24, 16, and 10. They love camping, hiking, and whitewater rafting. They are big fans of summer here, but could do without the McCall winters!
“MCPAWS is an amazing asset to McCall and does many wonderful things. I am excited to be part of such a staple in our community. I have worked as a supervisor at a medical clinic and now I look forward in expanding my knowledge in the veterinary world.”
It has been a great merge and I love my new MCPAWS family.
